Lightning Kills Two, Injures Three

Two fishermen of Ddimu Landing site in Kyesiiga Sub-county were killed and three others injured, when a bolt of light struck their boat over the weekend.

Vincent Kalule 29 and Joseph Luyinda both residents of Bbuliro village died on the spot, while Ali Byakatonda, Godfrey Ssemakula and Mukasa Joseph are admitted at Kalisizo Hospital with serious injuries.

The five were all in the waters fishing at the time of the accident.

Eyewitnesses say a bolt of light struck Kalule and Luyinda at the same time before their boat capsized in the lake.

It took the other fishermen about 30 minutes to rescue their colleagues, because they feared that lightening would strike them too.

George Bulimwaaka, the Bbuliro village chairman always sail with electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and radios which attract lightening during bad weather. He said the fisherman must be taught about the dangers of keeping electronic gadgets in bad weather.

Abdul Nsubuga, the LC III Chairperson Kyesiiga explains that lightening has become a common threat to residents of Kyesiiga.
