The 2012 Eastern Africa Youth Athletics Championship is underway at Namboole Stadium today with six countries taking part.
Dominic Otucet, Chairman of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) says they are well prepared to host the tournament and the local athletes are also well prepared to give a good account of their talent.
Otucet says the 44 athletes have been undergoing training and are eager to dethrone defending champions, Kenya. The other countries expected to take part in the championship include; Djibouti, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Tanzania. The countries that failed to send athletes include; Sudan, Zanzibar, Burundi and South Sudan.
Jimmy Monday Odongkara, one of the team coaches told URN that the Ugandan team will do everything possible to utilize the home advantage. Speaking about the strong teams from Kenya and Ethiopia, Odongkara said they have laid strategies to beat them.

George Leru Palanda, the team manager who is also in-charge of all youth events in the country said he expects Uganda to put on a good show because they have trained hard. Palanda said although they expect stiff competition from Kenya, the exposure will be very good for the youngsters who are hungry to win.
