Julius Nkurunziza, Nakaseke District Criminal Investigations Officer is trouble for alleged corruption and abuse of office.
He is accused of taking a two billion shilling bribe to kill a case. The case in question involves a private health practitioner who was accused of selling government drugs and operating without a license.
Nkurunziza was caught red-handed on Tuesday by operatives from the Police Standards Unit at a hotel in Kiwoko town council receiving the alleged bribe from undisclosed health service provider.
Richard Mivule, the Central-Eastern Regional Police Commander says that PSU acted on a tip off from undisclosed source and trapped Nkurunziza. He says that the suspect was arrested and interrogated and released on police bond from Nsambya police barracks as he waits to appear in court to answer charges of corruption and abuse of office.
This is the second top police official in Nakaseke town to be arrested over corruption, within a space of five months.
Another official Polly Kawagga, attached to Kasana Police was interdicted early this year, accused of receiving 600,000shillings to release two suspected cattle thieves.
