39 Killed in Cattle Raids

At least 39 people have been killed and 666 heads of cattle stolen in the last 3 months as general banditry escalates in Moroto district.


At least 39 people have been killed and more than 600 heads of cattle stolen over the past three  months in Moroto.

The dead were killed as they tried to rescue their animals from the suspected cattle rustlers.

The dead include 20 women, with the latest incident four women murdered in cold blood on Friday last week at a kraal in Nangorikipi village, Loputuk parish, Nadunget Sub County in Moroto district.

Moroto Resident District Commissioner Nahaman Ojwee says the UPDF soldiers have killed seven warriors in the pursuit for the stolen animals.

Ojwee says the army has been given a task  to recover stolen animals and arrest anyone involved in cattle rustling.

Intelligence information indicate that 269 guns wreaking havoc are still in the hands of suspected warriors in Moroto district.
