The residents claim they are being asked to pay between 1,000 and 3,000 shillings as security fee charged by men on security patrols.

Illegal fees collected in the wee hours of the nights are turning into a major bother for the residents of Mafubira Sub County in Jinja district.

The residents claim they are being asked to pay between 1,000 and 3,000 shillings as security fee charged by men on security patrols.

Of most concern to the residents is that this money is being collected at night and Is not uniform.

68-year-old William Semafumu, a resident of Mafubira zone C, says the security guards have been at his home four times this month and each time they have knocked at his door, he responds by paying 1,500 shillings.

“The guards knock at my door after midnight forcing me to open the door. They sound to be drunk always. I have given them money on two occasions, but they continue knocking my door at night.”  Said Semafumu.

Steven Kakonge, a resident of Mafubira zone A pays Shs 1000/-.  He says the poor are more concerned about the men that knock demanding for the security fee.
