Kham Kakama, is the baby boy was brutally killed in a gruesome murder that shocked the nation.  The case has been before the Nakawa High Court.

Tumusiime a resident of Kamwokya Central zone and formerly a chapatti seller in Makindye pleaded guilty to kidnapping Kakama from his parents’ home in Bugolobi and killing him.

The presiding judge, justice Faith Mwondha ruled that the offence Tumusiime committed was grave and he deserved to be condemned to death, because he took away the life of an innocent toddler and later on took a ransom of 30 million shillings from his parents Naomi and Sven Karekaho.

The judge however changed mind after realizing that the accused had already served two years on remand and had also saved court’s time by pleading guilty to the charges. She instead ruled that Tumusiime should serve a 30-year-jail sentence.

Tumusiime was charged along aside his girlfriend Mellon Nabassa, who was also Kakama’s nanny and a one Brain Sajjabi.
Nabaasa andSajjabi denied the offences of kidnap and murder and their trial will proceed before the same court in July this year.

Tumusiime told court that they hatched a plan with Nabaasa to kidnap Kakama so they could extort money from the baby’s parents. But even after receiving the money, they went ahead to suffocate the boy to death and dumped his body in a dustbin in Kamwokya.

He told court that the ransom was used to buy two motorcycles and some of the money was deposited in the bank.
The motorcycles were brought to court as exhibits and  Justice Mwondha ordered that they be handed to Sven Karekaho, the deceased’s father because they were bought using his money.

Both Kakama’s parents and friends were in court and could not hold back their tears as the verdict was announced.
