Local government
Angry residents of Kichope and Barogole parishes in Ojwina Division, Lira town on Monday took on the street and blocked independent road accusing the contractor over shoddy constructions.
Using huge logs and blocks, the rowdy residents numbering about 100 reportedly blocked the 7KM independent road which is currently under construction by Shajapa technical limited.

Residents of Kichope and Barogole parishes in Ojwina Division, in Lira town staged a protest on Monday against the poor state of the roads.

More than 100 people blocked the 7KM independent road using logs and blocks. The road under contention is currently being constructed by Shajapa technical limited. They demanded to know why it is taking too long to complete the road.

Acuma William, a local resident accused the contractor of shoddy works. He claims the drainage system is poor.
Independent road is mainly used by traders and has since been closed.

Ongwech Moses, a local resident accused the municipal engineer of failing to monitor the road and blamed the shoddy works on kickbacks.

It took the intervention of the police personnel and the district LCV chief Alex Oremo to re-open the road. Oremo ordered that the work on the road resume in three days, lest he risk arrest.
