Police has fired teargas to disperse residents of Kawempe Division protesting a decision by police to block Kiiza Besigye, the FDC leader from eating in Bwaise market. Kiiza Besigye stormed Bwaise market this afternoon in the company of Mubarak Munyagwa, the Mayor Kawempe Division to have lunch but was blocked by cops.

Stephen Tanui, Kampala North Regional Police Commander intercepted Besigye before he could enter the market and ordered him to leave. Tanui ordered Besigye to take Gayaza route to his home in Kasangati, which he accepted but his supporters blocked the road. Ivan Musinguzi, a mechanic in garage pelted the cops with stones leading to his arrest.

However, this didn’t go down well with the residents who started pelting police with stones. As a result, police opened teargas, rubber bullets and pepper spray to disperse the residents. Police escorted Besigye to his home in Kasangati. Musinguzi is being held at Bwaise Market police post.
