Maxwell Okello, a resident of Kamdin Township in Oyam district is gunshot wounds he sustained on Thursday during clashes between residents and police. Okello was shot in the right leg when police opened fire to disperse a mob that attacked Kamdin Central Police Station to free two unidentified suspects accused of arson and assault.


They were picked up by police on Wednesday for setting the house of VictorinoKolo a blaze and assaulting his over a land dispute. As a result, over 100 residents stormed Kamdin police station to release the suspects without. Police opened teargas to disperse the residents, but they kept advancing forcing police to resort to live bullets.


George Ochola, the officer in charge of Kamdin Central Police Station says that Okello was hit during the clashes. He says that Okello was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment where he is receiving treatment. Ochola explains that Okello was the mastermind of the attempted raid on Kamdin police station. 


He says police is holding 8 other suspects in connect to the attempted raid on Kamdin police station. The suspects are Nelson Otim, Omara Quinto, Atim Tony, Moro James, Okello Jaspher, Ojok Lawrence, Adea Moses and Okello Maxwell. Ochola says that the suspects will be charged with inciting violence against police.
