Uganda is to establish a military training base in Somalia.
The training wing targets to increase the number of Somali nationals into the force as well as helping the transition federal Government (TFG) to have a direct supervision of the training activities.
The Uganda people’s defense forces spokes person Col. Felix Kulaigye says the training program for Somalis nationals is also aimed at equipping Somali solders with enough military skills to be able to stand on their own in extending control of their country.
He says the training program is supported by the U.S, European Union and AMSOM in order to improve on the capacity of Africa to take its share in the management of crises and security threats.
Currently over 2500 Somalis have under gone military training at Bihanga army training school in south western Ugandan district of Ibanda.
The latest batch of 603 Somali soldiers has also been commissioned by the Somali state minister for defense Mo’alim Nuur Mohamed who said despite threats by Al-shabab militias Uganda has risked the lives of its citizens to re-establish the Somali army and rebuild the nation.
Uganda has since 2007 deployed over 8.000 soldiers as African peace keepers in Somalia with a number of them killed by Al-shabab militias.
