Amudat officials Threaten to Quit Over Death Threats

Crime
Two officials in Amudat district have threatened to abandon their offices citing death threats that have sent a shiver in the delivery of services to the needy residents.
Two senior officials of Amudat district are threatening to quit their jobs of death threats. They are Elias Magumba, Amudat Chief Administrative Officer and District Planner Charles Lorot.  It all started after Lotem Linos, Amudat District NRM Chairman publicly threatened to shot dead both officials during the belated Labor Day celebrations.

Lotem allegedly accused the duo of causing the interdiction of the native Pokots from their jobs in their own homeland. He raised eye brows when he went to his car and pulled out an AK47 and a pistol and took a strategic position. David Okello, Amudat District Internal Security Officer says that the celebrations aborted prematurely because of the conduct of the NRM chairman.

Elias Magumba, Amudat CAO says that he is scared for his life given the history of Karamoja. He however vows not remain silent as government officials swindle public funds through corruption, while hiding behind tribalism. Stephen Bewaayo Nsubuga confirms the death threats saying that some corrupt officials have resorted to issuing death threats against their superiors to cover for their mess.

Nsubuga however says that they will not allow this to continue, adding that death threats scare away public servants which affect service delivery to residents. He attributes the death threats to the police of Zero tolerance to corruption in the district. William Bwatuum, Amudat LC V chairperson says that he is aware of the death threats and promises to get to the bottom of the matter. Bwatuum has asked the district security team to handle the matter to establish the truth.  Recently, 5 Amudat district officials were interdicted and remanded to prison for corruption.
