Pioneer Easy bus owes Kampala Capital City Authority up to 90 million shillings for operating in the city, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has said.
Lukwago says that in the first contract with KCCA in 2005, Pioneer Easy Bus were to pay 300,000 shillings per month for the operations of each bus in the city.
According to Lukwago, Pioneer now has a total of 100 buses operating in the city whose services have to be paid for in the same way the taxis are paying to be allowed to operate.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Lukwago said Pioneer easy bus is not an exception and has to continue paying the 300,000 shillings to KCCA until their contract is renewed.

When Uganda Radio Network contacted Connie Nankya the public relations officer for Pioneer Easy Bus Company, she declined to divulge any details asking for more time.
But Florence Kintu, Chairperson Parliamentary committee on Public Service and Local Government says the bus company is operating illegally, two months after it rolled out its operations in the city.
Kintu says there are so many things that need to be put in place to legalize the operations of Pioneer Easy Buses.
Ignatius Besisira, another member of the Public Service and Local Government committee, says that government forced Pioneer Easy Bus Company to roll out its services because of the many threats by Taxi operators to strike that would paralyze public transport in the city.
