Kasese Police is holding three suspects in connection to the murder of Amon Thembo, a veteran journalist in the district. Thembo was shot dead by unknown assailants on Friday night last week as he returned at his home in Kyogha in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council. Justus Twongyeirwe, the Kasese Criminal Investigations Officer says that they have arrested three suspects to help police with investigations into the murder.
Twongyeirwe who declines to name the identities of the suspects says that two of the suspects are women. He says that police also recovered a gun on Saturday from Muyina village, Nyakiyumbu sub-county, but says that it is not yet clear if it is the gun that was used to kill Thembo. Sources told URN that the gun was found dumped in the compound of an LC official but police has declined to confirm the reports.
On Monday, police arrested over 40 people in an operation conducted in Kizungu and Nyakasanga cells in Kasese Municipality. Isaac Amanya, Kasese district police commander explains that the operation was part of their routine activities to round up wrong elements to curb crime. He says that during the operation police impounded various items such as computers and mattresses that are believed to have been stolen.
