High Court Quashes Interim Injunction Against UTTA Executive

Nakawa High court has lifted an interim injunction against the executive of Uganda Table Tennis Association-UTTA.  The interim injunction was issued by the same court last week, after members of various clubs led by Francis Mulinda, the former UTTA Chairman petitioned court challenging the mandate of the current executive led by Denis Galabuzi.

The petitioners had alleged that Galabuzi, the UTTA Chairman and his executive are illegally in office since their term of office expired last year. According to the UTTA constitution, members of the executive are expected to serve for only two years. But in their defense, Galabuzi and his executive committee dismissed the court injunction saying that UTTA general assembly had suspended elections until the constitutional review exercise is completed.

They also challenged the manner in which court had issued the interim injunction since they had not been served. On Thursday, Muse Musimbi, the Assistant Registrar of Nakawa High quashed the interim order and allowed Galabuzi and his team to resume their work.  Galabuzi told URN that he was excited that the injunction had been lifted saying he was ready to meet Mulinda and his team in court. Mulinda has not yet commented on the development and he didn’t pick up his mobile despite repeated calls by our reporter.
