Luuka police is holding two people over a botched abortion. The suspects are 38-year-old Irene Nantale and Hussein Jazza, both residents of Nakabugu village in Luuka district. They are accused of helping a 16-year-old girl to carry out an abortion in vain. It is alleged that the girl approached Nantale, after she was impregnated by her son Jazza.

According to Police Nantale convinced the girl to abort and helped her to secure herbs from a witchdoctor but the fetus failed to come out.David Ajai, Luuka district Criminal Investigations Officer says that the girl’s health started deteriorating forcing her parents to rush her to Kiyunga health center for admission. He explains that doctors examined the girls and found out that her health had deteriorated as a result of a failed abortion.

Ajai says that the girl opened up and told her parents the truth leading to the arrest of Nantale and her son Jazza. He says that the suspects will be charged defilement and procuring an abortion contrary to the penal code.  Nantale confesses to have helped the minor to abort but saying that it was wrong for police to arrest.
