High Court in Kampala will today pronounce itself on the application filed by Roger Hans Ddungu, the embattled former president of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), who is seeking a court injunction on all operations of the institution.
After failing to secure an interim order to block the UOC Extra General Assembly which eventually banned him last Saturday, Ddungu will be hoping that the verdict at the High Court’s Civil Division will be to his advantage.
Ddungu went to court to challenge his earlier suspension arguing that it was unconstitutional and that the current UOC Executive members did not have the powers to suspend him.
But Vice President in-charge of technical matters, Denis Galabuzi has said they are ready for the court today. Galabuzi, who said the UOC officials are busy preparing athletes for the London Olympics, noted that they are not worried about the court case. He argued that whatever was done is well documented and in-line with the constitution.
Last Saturday the Extra Ordinary General Assembly banned Ddungu for contravening the UOC constitution and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Charter, when he took his executive to court.
Seven members of the UOC Executive Committee led by Vice President (Administration), William Blick together with Office Administrator Collins Joseph Ssemanda will appear in Court today.
But as the UOC battles continue locally, IOC will also send their verdict on matters in Uganda after receiving minutes of the Extra Ordinary Assembly. Sources in UOC told URN that Ddungu reportedly wrote to IOC telling them that not all members were present and that it is only the President supposed to call the Assembly as per the constitution.
