One person has died and several others injured in a huge explosion at Tembo Steel Rolling Mills in Iganga Municipality. The explosion occurred when chemicals got mixed up with metals. The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Lusi Namuyonjo, a resident of Bukonko in Kigulu County in Iganga district.
The injured are Hakim Musenero, Jessica Byobona, Michael Ofwono and another only identified as James all workers in the blast furnace section. The management of Tembo Steel Rolling Mills has not yet issued an official statement on the incident. Ayub Waiswa, the Criminal Investigations Officer Iganga district says the management of the factory has concealed information about the incident.
He says the management has also refused to reveal the hospital where the injured are admitted which is raising suspicion. Waiswa says that they will hold the management Tembo Steel Rolling Mills liable and compel it to divulge information about the incident. He has also asked the factory to ensure that the workers are given protective gear to protect them from such incidents.
