LC 3 chairpersons in Hoima are divided over a proposal to stage a demonstration to protest non remittance of funds to lower divisions by the municipality. Last week, Jackson Amanya the Chairperson Hoima municipal LC3 Chairpersons forum announced their plans to hold a demonstration to protest the non remittance of the funds to lower councils.
He said the protest was meant to compel the town clerk and Mayor to remit funds to the division, after failing to iron out their concerns in the various meetings.

However, the protest that was scheduled to take place when the town clerk returned from an international trip to South Africa, this week failed to take off. Amanya says the demonstration has been rescheduled to next week in respect of the 18th Bunyoro Coronation event due next Monday.
But in separate telephone interviews LC3 chairpersons; Solomon Nyakoojo for Mparo Division and Fredrick Alibankooha Ziiwa for Kahoora Division distanced themselves from the planned demonstration.
Nyakoojo explains that they have been getting funds from the municipal council except for property tax which he says has also been remitted. He says even if the funds are not sent it does not require them to demonstrate but rather to approach those concerned.
Alibankooha too says they have been receiving funds and for the money that has not been sent, the town clerk has always explained. They argue that as members of the forum they have not been consulted and therefore distance themselves from the demonstration.
Hoima Municipal council has four divisions of Kahoora, Mparo, Busiisi and Bujumbura. Hoima Municipal Deputy Mayor Ronald Basiima last week disregarded the protest saying they have always remitted money to the divisions. Pius Epaju, the town clerk was unavailable for comment as he drove off when our reporter approached the municipal offices.
