Police in Kabale district is investigating circumstances under which a man committed suicide after hacking his wife to death.
James Nyongyera 44, a businessman at Kakondo trading centre in Mabungo Ntarabana parish, Buhara Sub County, was on Monday morning found hanging in his bedroom as his wife Harriet Aharimpisya 43 lay in a pool of blood on their matrimonial bed with deep cuts on the neck.
Richard Ngorora, the son to the deceased told URN that the two have been staying alone in the house which they also use to sell beer and other merchandise. He says he went to check on them to know how they had spent the night but when he knocked nobody responded.
He said that he was forced to call locals who also tried to open the house in vain and decided to remove one of the iron sheets from the roof, only to find two bodies in the bedroom and the panga which Nyongyera is believed to have used to hack his wife.
He says that the two have not been having any serious disagreements only that his father used to complain that the wife was taking alcohol.
Fabiano Ntambaize, Nyongyera’s relative, says that they had only heard of complaints from the woman that the husband was moving out with other women. Ntambaize explained that the two were staying alone in their business house while their seven children used to stay in their residential home.
He says that he saw the two together at 6:00 pm on Sunday and that they were smiling at each other without any problem.
Elly Maate the south –south western regional police spokesperson, says that police is trying to find out the cause of the incident. He challenged locals to always make use of the child and family protection unit of police solve their problems instead of murder.
