Masaka Police is investigating Jane Najjingo, a resident of Buchulo village in Nyendo Senyange Division in connection to the death of her 10-year-old son whose body was found hanging on a tree. Francis Lukyamuzi, a former primary three pupil of St Anthony Bugya primary school in Masaka disappeared from home on Saturday evening but he was found dead on Monday morning. His body was found hanging on a mango tree with a rope around his neck.
But residents led by Nuhu Mutebi, the LC I chairman of the Buchuro village and Sulaiti Lubwama, a neighbor to Najjingo pin her for her involvement in the death Lukyamuzi. Lubwama explains that despite the fact that Lukyamuzi disappeared on Saturday, Najjingo only informed the authorities on Sunday evening. Nuhu Mutebi the area LCI chairperson says that the deceased’s body had some wounds on the lower part of the stomach.
He suspects that Najjingo could have beaten the boy into comma before hanging his body on a mango tree to appear like he committed suicide. She says that there are various puzzles linking Najjingo to the murder of her son, which must be investigated. This morning, a team of detectives from Masaka Central Police station visited the crime scene and interrogated Najjingo for several hours over the death of her son. Noah Sserunjogi, the southern Regional police spokesperson says that the detectives recorded a statement from Najjingo but released her on police bond to bury her son.
He says that they will summon her to follow up on the investigations. He says police has allowed the family to bury the deceased after carrying out a postmortem. Najjingo denies her involvement in the murder of her son, adding that Lukyamuzi disappeared from home when she punished him for loitering on the village. She claims to have punished Lukyamuzi together with his brother Vincent Katongole Vincent but he disappeared from home. Najjingo says that she reported the disappearance of her son to the local council chairperson but to her surprise as she was searching for him, she landed on his body on a mango tree.
