30 Rwandan nationals are in police custody after being rounded up on Thursday evening in Katuna town council for illegal entry.
The immigrants were found in drinking places and lodges at the border town.
Eric Sunday, the Katuna town clerk, says the operation was prompted by the outcry from the local residents that some Rwandan nationals had become a threat to their security as they used to take away their property.
He revealed that all those who were arrested claim to have crossed into Uganda to work but they have no work permits. The group includes 25 females and 5 males.

Cue out:…with all the property.”//
Hassan Hasunula, the Officer in charge of Katuna police post, says that the illegal immigrants were posing a security threat as locals have always reported theft cases to the police and only to find out that the suspects have rushed back to their country.
He revealed that they are liaising with Interpol and the Rwandan government to make sure that those arrested are sent back to their country.
Some of the suspects, however, accused the security operatives of wrongful arrest saying that they were married to Ugandans.
Francina Uwamahoro, one of those arrested in the operation says that she is married to a Ugandan man but that he dumped her in a lodge where she has been staying for the last two weeks.
Angelik Mukasenga, who was also arrested, says that she was convinced by other Rwandans to come to Uganda with promises of a job in Kampala only to be taken to a pub in Katuna.
