Foreign Stars Arrive for Uganda Open Tennis

Top players from countries such as Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania jetted into the country last evening ready for action.
The 2012 Uganda Open Tennis Championship, which is underway at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, has attracted various foreign players. Top players from countries such as Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania jetted into the country last evening ready for action. The Rwandan delegation is comprised of key players such as Jean Claude Gasigwa, Matayo Uwizetmana, Muburax Haverimana and Olivier Nkunda amongst others.


Cedric Babu, Chairman of the Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) told URN at the Lugogo Tennis Club last evening that they are glad that this long awaited event is finally taking place. He says that tournament, which is the biggest event on the local Tennis calendar will give the local players a chance to showcase their talent and also get tested by players from other countries. Babu says they expect a great event because local players have been training hard.
 
Herbert Buyinza who represented Uganda at the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique said he has prepared well and he is looking forward to win this trophy for the first time. Uganda’s top player and defending champion Duncan Mugabe will miss the event as he is currently in the US for training hoping to be given a late wildcard next week for the 2012 London Olympic Games.


The other Ugandan players to watch in the men’s singles include David Olinga and Moses Ocici. Fast rising Olinga said he will also try to do his best to win the tournament.
