FDC Agent Assaulted in Bushenyi Municipality MP By Election

 
Charles Tweheyo, a prominent FDC supporter has been injured critically after he was alleged thumped by supporters of Nasser Basajabalaba, the NRM candidate for in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality MP by elections. Tweheyo was allegedly assaulted by NRM supporters at about 6:00am shortly after dropping off four polling agents of Odo Tayebwa at Buramba polling station in Ishaka division.
 
He alleges that the NRM supporters intercepted his Mark two vehicle registration number UAL 715Q and smashed its windscreen. They later pulled him out and beat him causing bodily injuries on his legs and head. Hillary Kulayigye, the mid south western regional police commander says that the assault victim was rushed to Kyeizoba farmer’s clinic in Bushenyi town for treatment.


He says that police has launched investigations into the incident. FDC supporters accuse their NRM rivals of traversing the constituency to bribe voters. But Paul Bukenya, electoral commission public relations officer says that they have not received any formal complaints about the allegations. He however says that whoever is found involved in voter bribery will be prosecuted.

Nasser Basajabalaba, and his agents have not yet responded to the accusations of assaulting the FDC supporter as they could not be reached by the time of filing this story. The race to the Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality has attracted four candidates. They include Nasser Basajabalaba, Odo Tayebwa, Robert Bwarare and Ismail Kikurwe. The seat fell vacant after the court of appeal nullified the election of Basajjabalaba on grounds of voter bribery.
