Jinja municipal council authorities have demolished eight houses constructed in Walukuba-Masese division without approval by the council. The houses were demolished this morning, by a team of law enforcement officers. Abubakar Maganda, the speaker Jinja Municipal council says that they passed a resolution on Monday to demolish all houses constructed without approval of the council and those erected on unsurveyed land.
Francis Barabanabwe, the town clerk Jinja Municipal Council says that the owners of the affected buildings were served with warning letter to stop construction in 2010 but they ignored the warning. He says that as a result, the municipality passed a resolution to demolish the building.
Barabanabwe says that his office will issue a detailed report on the demolished houses, and those to be demolished in Mpumudde – Kimaka divisions. Ronald Nyanzi, one of the affected land lords and resident of church village in Walukuba–Masese division asks the authorities not to be selective in demolishing illegal buildings.

Nyanzi says that he spent 200 million to construct the house that has been demolished. He says that only a few things like windows, doors, floor tiles and wall paint were remaining. Adnan Kawoya, LC IV councilor Walukuba – Masese division says that the resolution should be enforced with favoring some people.
He says some municipal council officials have also illegally constructed buildings in Walukuba –Masese division which should be demolished.

George Kitimbo, Jinja district surveyor who owns a bungalow next to one of the demolished building, declined to comment on the development.
