A Special Police Constable has shot dead one person and injured another in Igayaza town board in Birembo sub county Kibaale district. John Byamugisha, ran amok on Tuesday night at a drinking joint in Igayaza town and shot dead the bar attendant and his customer. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Sugaba Aleraimana and the injured is Peter Nkurunziza.
An eye witness says that Bamugisha, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle, came chasing an unidentified man, who entered in the bar with a lady attendant. The source says that Bamugisha opened fire when the Aleraimana tried to stop him, hitting him several times in the head and chest.
He died on the spot. Byamugisha turned the gun on a customer injuring him in the leg. John Ejukuna Elatu, the Kibaale District Police Commander says that the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is being held at Kibaale police station. He says that Nkurunziza is also admitted at Kakindo health center IV.
Police say preliminary investigations show that the brutal incident was as a result of a struggle over a woman. Ejukuna says that investigations are still ongoing. He regretted the incident and says the suspect will be charged with murder and attempted murder in courts of law. Security has been stepped up at Kibaale police station to guard against a raid by the angry residents baying for the blood of the SPC.
