Leaders of rival DP factions have pitched camp in Lwengo district to campaign for Mathias Nsubuga, the DP candidate for the Bukoto South MP by elections. Nsubuga was nominated on Wednesday to contest the Bukoto South seat alongside Independents Yasin Lubega and Dan Katula Mubiru and Julius Ssentamu of FDC and NRM’s John Alintuma Nsambu. However, it was pomp as several top DP leaders rushed to Lwengo to solicit votes for Mtahias Nsubuga, who is also the DP secretary general.
They are Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party president and his deputy John Kawanga, Mukasa Mbidde, the Legal advisor and a number of Democratic Party members of parliament. Surprisingly, rival DP supporters led by Betty Nambooze of Mukono Municipality and Mathias Mpuuga of Masaka Municipality have also joined campaigns to boost Nsubuga's re-election. Florence Namayanja, Nsubuga’s chief campaign strategist says the entire DP leadership has decided to camp in Lwengo to ensure Nsubuga takes the seat.
She claims that they decided to rush to Lwengo after sensing the plot by NRM leaders to rig the election for John Alintuma Nsambu. Namayanja, who defeated Nsambu in the February 2011 Bukoto East parliamentary polls, explains that she knows the rigging machinery of the NRMm, which they want to curtail.

Cue out: “……not any body’s interest.”//
Mathias Nsubuga, the DP candidate says he is confident of victory if all the challenges are addressed. He says he wants security agencies out of the elections because they harassed residents in the previous elections. Norbert Mao, the DP President says they are planning to deploy several vigilantes to man polling stations to ensure no election fraud takes place. Mao says they want four DP polling agents at every polling station.
MP Mathias Mpuuga and Betty Nambooze say they have decided to put their differences aside to support Nsubuga.
Mpuuga says they want to see Nsubuga back in parliament to boost the chances of defeating NRM’s Museveni. According to Mpuuga they cannot allow Nsambu back into parliament because he does not have the interests of people of Bukoto south at heart. Bukoto South fell vacant after high court nullified Muhammad Muyanja Mbabaali’s election because he lacks required academic qualifications.
