The highly publicized wedding of Tooro Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale has been postponed.
Princess Komuntale 23-year-old, a sister to King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, was set to get married to Christopher Thomas, a US citizen on July 14 in Fort Portal. The wedding was to be preceded by a traditional introduction ceremony on July 12 at the home of Prince Charles Kamurasi, the princess’ paternal uncle and head of the Babiito clan.
Brian Muganzi, a member of the Tooro royal family, who has been at the forefront in organizing the traditional introduction ceremony locally known as Kweranga, says that they received verbal communication from King Oyo that the wedding has been postponed to November 17 this year.
He says that the wedding will be preceded by the Kweranga on November 15.
According to Muganzi, the wedding was postponed to give the royal family ‘enough’ time to prepare for the event and sort out a few outstanding issues, which he declined to reveal.
When contacted, Prince Charles Kamurasi couldn’t deny or confirm the reports but declined to comment further. But Muganzi said that Kamurasi was aware of the postponement, but didn’t want to comment.
In a telephone interview, Arthur Namara, the Kingdom spokesperson also could not deny or confirm the reports. Namara said that they are yet to receive official confirmation on Sunday.
The royal wedding activities were slated to kick off on July 1 with a children’s party at Kololo Airstrip in Kampala.
Preparations have also been in high gear, with the renovation of Prince Kamurasi’s residence at Gweri in Karambi Sub County and at the King’s palace in Fort Portal, where the wedding reception was to be held.
