Bell Uganda Cup winners URA FC will embark on training later this week ahead of the 2012 Council for East and Central African Football Association (Cecafa) Kagame Club Championship slated for July 14-28 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The revenue side, who failed to defend their League title after finishing third in the Bell Lager Super League behind Express and Bunnamwaya, told URN that they will have training for two weeks.

Coach Alex Isabirye said since the event brings together League winners in all the Cecafa member countries, it will be very competitive and therefore requires them to prepare well enough.

According to Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye, South Sudan are also expected to send a team to the event.

The hosts Tanzania are expected to field three clubs; Azam FC, Simba and defending champions Young Africans. Army side APR will represent Rwanda, while Kenya will have Tusker FC with URA featuring for Uganda. The other clubs for the event include; Atletico Olympic (Burundi), Elman FC (Somalia), Mafunzo (Zanzibar), Red Sea (Eritrea), Coffe FC (Ethiopia) and Sudan’s El-Hilal.

Musonye said Rwandan President Paul Kagame has already committed 60,000 US dollars as prize money for the 2012 event. Musonye urged other sponsors and partners to come on board and make the 2012 competition a success.
