After failing to qualify for the second round of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Kenya’s national team coach Francis Kimanzi has today been demoted to technical director.
Information from Football Kenya Federation (FKF) indicates that after the team’s arrival at 5am on Tuesday from their failed mission in Togo, where they lost 1-0 and bowed out of the competition, the coach and his entire technical team were changed.
Uganda Cranes advanced to the next round after beating Congo Brazzaville 4-0 on Saturday to register a 5-3 aggregate win.
Kimanzi, the most qualified coach in East and Central Africa with UEFA coaching Diplomas, was in-charge of Harambee Stars when they held the Uganda Cranes to a 0-0 draw in October last year in Namboole Stadium, to deny Uganda chance to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kimanzi who qualified from Holland now takes over the technical directors’ position form Patrick Naggi.
Since taking over in November 2011, in his second stint, Kimanzi has seen the team through nine games including four wins, one draw and four loses.
In his first duty as Stars coach, spanning between May 2008 and January 2009, Kimanzi oversaw 13 games, out of which he collected six wins, four draws and three loses.
His current record now reads 22 played matches, out of which he has registered ten wins, five draws and seven loses. Reports indicate that Kenya is now thinking of hiring a foreign coach.
