Two Buried in Shallow Well

News
The victims are James Mitti and Peter Mutesasira, all residents of Masaka town.
Two people are feared dead after a well they were sinking collapsed and buried them this morning at Centenary High School in Nyendo, Masaka Municipality. The victims are James Mitti and Peter Mutesasira, all residents of Masaka town.

Eye witnesses say James Mitti was the first one to fall in as he tried to descend to the bottom using a rope which broke. The witnesses says that in the process of trying to rescue his colleague Peter Mutesasira also fell inside the well after the ground gave way.

Simon Peter Wafana, the Southern Region Police commander who rushed to the scene with a dozen police officers, said they cannot do much to rescue the victims. He however says that they have called the Kampala Fire Brigade team to intervene since they have the necessary equipment.

Wafana however says the chances of finding the victims are minimal. Abdullah Matovu, the Headmaster of Centenary High School where the accident occurred, describes it as a tragedy. He says they hoped the school would get a cheaper source of water. Matovu says they hope the drillers will be rescued alive so that it doesn’t give bad memories to the school.
