At least 50 elders from Nakapelimoru Sub County in Kotido district have pitched camped at Moroto district headquarters to ask the district officials to intervene and recover their animals stolen late last year.

Over 600 head of cattle were rustled by suspected Matheniko warriors when they attacked one of the biggest kraals in Kotido district.

The angry elders walked on foot from Kotido to Moroto, a distance of over 95 kilometres, to express their dissatisfaction.

Akullu Ekulukulu, one of the elders who lost the cattle, says government is unfair to the Karimojong who handed over their guns during the disarmament process. He also blames Moroto district local government for failure to cooperate with the neighbouring districts.

Speaking in Ngakarimojong, Ekulukulu adds that they set off from their homes on Saturday last week without any assistance from the Kotido district local government. He stresses that they will not leave Moroto till their grievances are addressed.

Ekulukulu says they will camp at the district till the leaders go out and recover their animals believed to be in a Matheniko kraal in Loputuk parish, Nadunget Sub County in Moroto district. He adds that this is likely to affect the prevailing peace between the two clans.

Petero Lokii, another elder asks Moroto leaders to recover their animals in the next two days so that they can go back home. He appeals to the security forces to help in the recovery of animals.

Mark Aol Musooka, the Moroto district chairman asks the army to effect an operation to recover the animals from the suspected rustlers.

Moroto District Police Commander Richard Anyama says a meeting would be held on Thursday to find ways of recovering the animals.
