News

Police has restored calm at Bobi Community Polytechnic Institute in Gulu following an early morning strike by students over alleged maladministration. The students went on strike at 7.am and attempted to March on foot from Bobi some 30 kilometers away to Gulu town.

They were intercepted by police led by Denis Odoch, Gulu District Police Commander who successfully persuaded them to return back to the school. They later held a meeting with the police at the school premises. During the meeting, the students presented a memorandum with grievances including from poor feeding, poorly stocked library and alleged mismanagement of school property like the school truck by the administrators.

They also complained that the school administrators do not respond to their complaints whenever they petition them. Denis Odoch the Gulu District Police Commander says the police managed to reach a compromise with the students after the meeting. Odoch says by this afternoon, the students had gone back to their classes for lessons.

The school administrators could not be reached for a comment as they were reportedly held up in a crisis meeting with officials from Gulu district education office. Bobi Community Technical Institute is a government aided tertiary institution which offers technical courses.
