Nsambu Abandons Campaigns as Mengo Rejects Apology

John Alintuma Nsambu, the NRM Party candidate in Bukoto South parliamentary by-elections has allegedly abandoned his campaigns as opposition against his candidature grows.

On Sunday, Nsambu officially launched his campaigns for Bukoto South by-elections at Kasaana play ground in Kiseka Sub County. He also addressed several mini campaign rallies around Kiseka.

Lawrence Byakatonda, one of Nsambu’s chief campaign agents, says since Sunday, Nsambu has not turned up for any other rallies. He says they were supposed to traverse the entire Kiseka Sub County before going to Kingo Sub County this week but Nsambu is nowhere to be seen.

Byakatonda says he has tried to contact him but he has failed. He explains that NRM supporters are now worried about what could have happened to him.

It is not clear where the former ICT State Minister is and what actually went wrong. URN visited Nandy's Guest House located at Bwala Hill near Masaka Social Center, where he resides but he was not there. He also declined to pick his calls.

This comes amid reports that he had failed to reconcile with Buganda Kingdom over his attacks on the Kabaka during the 2009 Buganda riots. Last week, Nsambu told URN that he was travelling to Mengo to apologize to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and Baganda.

John Baptist Walusimbi, the Katikiro of Buganda, has told URN on phone that Nsambu met him at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Lubaga on Monday and offered to apologize for all that went wrong between him and Kabaka of Buganda.

But Walusimbi says Mengo did not accept his apology because he approached him outside his office and casually. He explained that Mengo welcomes anybody in Bulange, the Kingdom seat but Nsambu’s decision to meet him in a Hotel was not serious. He therefore says Mengo does not regard that as an apology. He also says the timing of his apology is suspect.

NRM supporters in Greater Masaka have accused Nsambu of indiscipline and egoism. Some party youth leaders including Godfrey Kabaali and Joseph Ssewava, asked NRM to force Nsambu to rush to Mengo and officially apologize.

//Cue in: “Chauvinism must stop………
Cue out:……Nsambu must apologize.”//

Nsambu is contesting against DP’s Mathias Nsubuga, Julius Ssentamu for FDC and independent candidates Dan Katula, Robert Rutalo, Joseph Ssebayiki, and Yusuf Lubega Masengera.

The seat fell vacant following a court of appeal ruling in April this year that nullified the election of Muhammed Muyanja Mbabaali. The judges ruled that Mbabaali did not have the requisite academic qualifications for the seat.
