Prayers are being organised for Professor Gilbert Bukenya’s mother, Francesca Nabulo, who died on Friday at Mulago Hospital.
Bukenya, the Member of Parliament for Busiro North in Wakiso district, served as President Museveni’s vice president from May 2003 to May 2011.
Born in 1922, Nabulo has been staying with Professor Bukenya at his home village in Lwantama, Kakiri Sub County in Wakiso district.
The family is organising a requiem mass at Nadangira Catholic Parish in Kakiri on Saturday at 3pm, after which another mass will held at Bukenya’s home at 6pm.
Nabulo died of a stroke that had paralysed part of her body and confined her in a wheel chair. On Friday evening Professor Bukenya attributed all his achievements to his mother saying that it was out of her efforts that the medical scholar, politician and mobiliser reached greater heights.
In his autobiography, Through the Intricate Corridors to Power, Bukenya also praises his mother saying that she would go to the forest at night to brew waragi, a local potent gin, to educate her son.
Nabulo will be buried on Sunday at 2pm in Lwantama, Kakiri in Wakiso district.
