Members of Parliament from Busoga region are set to meet President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday following a complaint from the poverty ridden region of failed government pledges.

The 32 MPs across the political divide will be led to the meeting at Museveni’s home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district, by Speaker of Parliament and Kamuli District Woman MP, Rebecca Kadaga.

Kadaga heads the Busoga parliamentary group by virtue of her seniority in the group.

Kadaga is also slated to meet the president together with Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and East African Affairs Minister, Eriya Kategaya among others. President Museveni and his top party officials are likely to discuss the recently concluded elections for the East African Legislative Assembly members.

Reliable sources amongst the Busoga MPs, who spoke on condition that they remain anonymous, say that following the recently read budget for 2012/2013 financial year, they realised there was nothing in it for the entire region.

The MPs said that they were going to tell the President that despite their continuous support for the ruling NRM party, they have not seen any unique development in their region.

The MPs met at parliament on Friday to put the final details to all the compiled promises since 1996, which they would present as a petition to the President.

Among them are complaints about the bad Jinja - Kamuli road and the unfinished Bugiri - Busia Road. Iddi Isabirye, one of the MPs from the region said that the two major roads were not mentioned in the budget speech of the Finance Minister, Maria Kiwanuka.

But he also said that they would ask the President's views on the issue of Kyabazingaship.
The issue of the monarchy is still controversial with 11 chiefs yet to agree and recognise Edward Columbus Wambuzi as successor to Henry Wako Muloki, who died in 2008.

The disputed monarch is currently guarded by the soldiers from the Special Forces Group - SFG, the elite guards for the President.

Recently, the Karamoja MPs also protested and vowed to stop supporting Museveni citing the bad state of their roads and unfulfilled promises to construct them by the president.

Their Nakapiripirit - Moroto road was eventually included in the budget.
