A gang of thieves have broken into the office of the Yumbe Resident District Commissioner, stealing all the food intended for a group attending a political education course in the area.
The Yumbe police chief, George Ondoma, said the thieves broke into Drani Dradriga's office on Sunday night and stole a large stash of food including maize meal, beans and oil. The thieves also destroyed typewriters, office cabinets and documents in the office.
Ondoma said no arrests have been made in connection with the break-in at the Resident District Commissioner's office, but is confident that the culprits will be found soon.
This is the second time this year that the office has been attacked. The first attempt was unfruitful after the thieves were scared away by police.
Dradriga suspects that the theft at his office was carefully planned, although he refuses to point fingers at who he thinks may have been behind the robbery. He rules out rumors circulating in Yumbe that the thieves may have been part of a group of men who escaped from prison in Adjumani and Arua a few weeks ago.
