FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa will travel to South Africa tomorrow to attend the making of the final draws for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice President in-charge of the League, told URN on Tuesday that although he was meant to travel with the President on Wednesday, he will not make the trip because of family problems, but added that Mulindwa will be in Johannesburg ahead of the draws on Thursday.
The final qualifying round draw will be staged at Tanz Cafe-Emperors Palace, Ekurhuleni near Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
Uganda Cranes, who dispatched Congo Brazzaville on a 5-3 goal aggregate last month, will also eagerly be waiting to see which team they are paired against as they embark on a mission to get back to the regional tournament after their last appearance in 1978 in Ghana. Apart from Uganda and Sudan all the other member countries of the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) fell out in the first phase of the qualifiers.
Title holders Zambia are among 30 seeded and unseeded countries who will be paired off in 15 home-and-away ties scheduled for the weekends of September 7-9 and October 12-14.
Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Zambia and Morocco are the seeded countries. The unseeded countries are Botswana, Cape Verde Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Central African Republic, who eliminated giants Egypt over the weekend.
The 15 winning teams from the groups will join hosts South Africa in the January 19 to February 10 finals.
South Africa were also second-choice hosts of the 1996 tournament after Kenya withdrew and their national Bafana Bafana side exceeded expectations by lifting the trophy after a 2-0 final triumph over Tunisia.
