The construction of a Heath Centre Three in Migyera town council, Nakasongola district, has excited local residents who expressed optimism of accessing better medical services.

St. Francis Migyera Health Unit was on Thursday commissioned by the Catholic Bishop of Kasana-Luweero diocese, Right Reverend Paul Ssemwogerere.

The 400-million-shilling facility has been constructed by Kasana-Luweero diocese in conjunction with Change a Life, a US based charity organisation. The facility is to offer services in the Out Patients Department (OPD), handle In-patients and maternity among others.

According to Change a Life country director, Father Lawrence Kimbowa, the initiative follows a public demand for a health facility of the kind. He says that the locals in Migeera were finding it hard to access medical services because of a 20km distance to the nearest facility, Nabiswera Health Centre
III.

Dr. Gerald Sekitto, Nakasongola District Health Officer, says that Migyera town council had no facility of this kind and every patient with a serious ailment who couldn't afford the private clinics in the area had to go Nabiswera. He says that they have been asking government to address the problem but no positive response has been made.

Speaking to Uganda Radio Network, Jane Namutebi, a resident of Migyera zone in the town council she has been walking on foot to Nabiswera health centre for medical attention after failing to raise over 5000 shillings to hire a motorcycle.  She says the new health facility is a relief.

Muzafalu Mutatya, a resident of Kazinga zone in Migyera town council says that his wife recently delivered a baby while on her way to the clinic after traveling a long distance. He says now it will be easy with the commissioned facility located just half a kilometre from his home.

The residents are asking government to share the costs so that the drugs and other medical services are accessed at affordable prices.
