Three people are confirmed dead and 12 others injured following a Friday night road accident along Jinja – Iganga highway.

The accident occurred at Walugogo village two kilometers from Iganga town.

Herbert Nuwagaba, Iganga district police commander, says one person among the dead has been identified as Julius Bwire, the director of studies at Masaba College in Mable.

The other two have not been identified as they did not have identification documents.
The bodies are at Iganga hospital mortuary.

Abuneli Ndhote, a resident of Walugogo village, says the accident occurred at about 11 pm, when an over-speeding passenger taxi registration number UAK 977J rammed into a stationary trailer registration number 95/UBN/UAA/ 308.

Nuwagaba blames the accident on lack of warning signs on the road. He said that the trailer drivers did not place warning signs after it developed mechanical problems.

The trailer was packed in the middle of the road along Jinja – Iganga highway after a mechanical problem.

Dr. Siraji Kizito, Iganga medical director, says those admitted at Iganga hospital have broken limbs, head cuts and are in critical condition.
