Muhammad Nsereko, Kampala district NRM chairperson raised eye borrows on Wednesday when he publically campaigned for Mathias Nsubuga; the DP candidate instead of the NRM candidate John Alintuma Nsambu, ahead of the Bukoto south by-election tomorrow. Nsereko, who is also the Kampala Central MP, arrived at Nkoni play ground in Kingo Sub County in a white land cruiser registration number UAG 040. He was accompanied by Haruna Kasolo, the Kyotera county MP amidst cheers from Nsubuga’s supporters.
Nsereko told the voters that he decided to campaign for the DP candidate because the Buganda Caucus had decided to back Nsubuga after Alintuma Nsambu; the NRM candidate belittled the Kabaka. He blasted President Yoweri Museveni for supporting Nsambu, who has been implicated by parliament for misappropriating the National Id project funds. Nsereko asked Bukoto south voters to punish both Museveni and Nsambu by denying them votes, because they are planning to steal more public funds.
Haruna Kasolo, the Kyotera MP, also a leaning NRM legislator said they would everything possible to defeat Nsambu saying that he does not deserve any responsibility because of undermining their king. Despite the fact that Nsambu has repeatedly denied belittling the Kabaka, the DP supporters played an audio recording in which Nsambu vowed never to kneel or bore before the Kabaka because he also man enough just like Kabaka Mutebi. Nsambu has not yet responded to the fresh attack as he was also busy winding up his election campaign.
Addressing his supporters at Kiwangala trading center, Nsambu advised them to remain peaceful despite the provocation by DP youth vigilantes. He pledged to provide computer to all schools around the constituency to boost information and communication technology skills amongst learners. Nsambu also promised to provide porridge to pupils in primary schools who go without meals.
The Bukoto south by-election has attracted four candidates. They are Dan Katula Mubiru an independent candidate, Julius Ssentamu of FDC, and Mathias Nsubuga of DP and John Alintuma Nsambu of NRM. However, a tight race is expected between John Alintuma Nsambu, the NRM candidate and DP’s Mathias Nsubuga.
