Barely two weeks after creating a unit to investigate the Directorate of Immigration in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Inspector General of Police Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura has formed 32 other teams to investigate fraud in government ministries, departments and agencies.

The teams were created after Kayihura received numerous complaints of fraud in government departments and agencies.

Recently Kayihura appointed a seven-man team to investigate allegations of corruption and failure to remit government revenue to the consolidated fund by Immigration staff.

The new teams have between three to four investigators according to a circular by the Director Criminal Investigation, Grace Akullo. The officers on the teams are also expected to continue carrying out their day-to-day investigations of the other cases.

On Friday, the teams were expected to meet at the Directorate in Kibuli to map a way forward as they await a final flag-off by Kayihura.

Police spokesperson, Asuman Mugenyi confirmed the creation of the teams adding that the process is still on-going.

Mugenyi explained that the formation of the teams came after the police received many complaints about fraud.

Kayihura was recently praised by President Yoweri Museveni as a dedicated cadre of the NRM government.
