Jonathan Ebwalu, the Soroti district NRM treasure has resigned citing the failure by the ruling party to implement its campaign pledges in the district. Ebwalu threw in the towel on Friday after serving in the position since July 2010.

He said he had over the years watched in pain as the party failed to implement its pledges one after the other. He added that the party also lacks facilitation for its designated offices making it difficult to carry out the planned activities.

He said he had already informed the party leadership about his decision and also handed over the party items in his possession. Ebwalu decried the failure by the party to build and strengthen its institutional structures with a capacity to serve the people saying he was crossing over to initiate a new party that could serve the interest of the people.

//Cue in: “I am resigning…”
Cue out: “…not member of the National Resistance Movement”//

Ebwalu’s resignation has been met with silence from the district NRM party leaders. Attempts by URN to seek comments from the party leadership Charles Elasu, the NRM district chairman yielded negative results as he could not pick up his phone nor return our calls.

However, Mike Mukula, the Soroti Municipality MP and NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda said the politics of the bus, which is the NRM party symbol allows the members to board and disembark at any stage. Mukula commended Ewalu for his contribution saying the party wishes him well in his political career.

He however said the party would embrace Ebwalu should he reconsider his decision and opt back. Ebwalu was also until recently the station manager of Voice of Teso, a local radio station in Soroti town.
