The government of Uganda will not recognize the newly formed Busongara Kingdom, Inspector General of Police Lt. General Kale Kayihura has said. Kayihura made the statement while meeting the Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere on Monday.
Busongora Heritage Kingdom announced its existence on July 1st when it installed it’s King, Agutamba Ivan Bwebale.
Kayihura told the Rwenzururu King that just like the government has refused to recognize the Ankole King who was installed without its approval, the Busongora Kingdom could meet the same fate.
He was reporting back to the King Mumbere after consulting with the president and other government authorities concerning the establishment of a Busongora Kingdom in Kasese district.
He said that the government will continue consulting only the Rwenzururu Kingdom on matters concerning Kasese district.
Lt. General Kayihura instead urged the two parties to find ways of working together.
King Mumbere told Kayihura that the Rwenzururu Kingdom is ready to work with the Basongora if they can drop their claim for a Kingdom.
Mumbere said that the Bakonzo have been accommodative and hospitable to the Basongora for long time and this can continue.
Mumbere said there is no reason the Bakonzo and the Basongora should keep fighting over issues that would have been resolved.
Kayihura told the Rwenzuru King that Basongora representatives had told him they feel marginalized by the government which does not consider their opinion in the running of the region.
They also told Kayihura that they have been marginalized by the Bakonzo and district administration in the areas of employment and education.
