4 months old baby Frank Kaweesi, one of the three kids who were poisoned by their mother on Sunday 15th July, has passed away. The death of Kaweesi brings the number of deaths to three in this family.
Kaweesi, together with his two siblings, were rushed to Kalisizo hospital in critical condition after they allegedly ate food laced with poison.
The tragedy unfolded in Lukoni Village, Rakai district when the biological mother of these kids poisoned them before hanging herself.
Pascal Ssenkyanzi 4, one of the victims, died on the way to hospital. It was hoped the surviving children would make a full recovery. However, on Monday night, Kaweesi’s health worsened and he died at 9am in the morning.
Fred Kaggwa, the father to the deceased, said that he was shocked by the death of his son. He said that he thought that Grace Nabalisa 2, and Kaweesi would survive since they had started responding to the medication.
Dr George Wagubulizi, the medical superintendent of Kalisizo hospital, said that they struggled to save the life of the toddler before he passed away. He said that the deceased’s liver was over powered by the level of the poison.
Dr Wagubulizi said that Nabalisa’s life is out of danger though she still requires more medical attention. He said that she will stay hospitalized as the medics monitor her response to medication.
Michael Turyakire, the acting Criminal Investigations officer , said that investigations into the matter are hampered by the lack of witnesses as the prime suspect, Teddy Nakyanzi, the mother of the kids is also dead.
