More than 150 residents of Kawala village, Kitumbi sub-county, Mubende district threatened with land eviction are seeking the intervention of the Resident District Commissioner Patrick Buliku.
The residents are locked in land row with one Doctor Elishana Mugisha who stays in Kampala. The land conflict, according to residents, has dragged on for over a year now with Doctor Mugisha threatening to evict them.
Both the residents and Doctor Mugisha claim ownership of the 200 hectare piece of land in Kawala village.
On Tuesday afternoon led by the Kawala LC1 Chairperson, Elisha Kajubi, the residents stormed the office of Resident District Commissioner Buliku and handed him their petition.
In their petition, the residents called upon the RDC and government to intervene because they face eviction from land they claim to have occupied for more than forty years.
The residents brought business at the office of the RDC to a stand still as they heckled and shouted for attention until he was forced to address them.
Buliku assured the residents that he was to liaise with the Kitumbi sub-county leadership to have the matter sorted out.
Meanwhile although the petitioners claim they are only in final stages of acquiring the land titles. Mugisha says he legally owns the land has the title for it.
