The 16th edition of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) Founders’ Memorial International Volleyball Tournament takes center stage this weekend with foreign sides joining the fray.
Top clubs from Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi have confirmed participation, while the organizers are still awaiting teams from DR Congo and South Sudan to confirm.
Mary Florence Nanyondo, the Club President, told URN this afternoon after receiving a 25 million shilling sponsorship package from National Social Security Fund that they are well prepared for the event.

Nanyondo said the Ugandan teams are more than determined to ensure the men and women’s trophies stay here.
She called upon NSSF who have supported the event since 2008 to also lend a hand in promoting the sport in universities. The foreign teams that have confirmed include; Kigali Volleyball Club, Rwanda Patriotic Army, INATEK (Rwanda), Nyanza Club (Rwanda), Administrative Police (Kenya) and Burundi’s Rukinzo VC.
Richard Patrick Byarugaba, the NSSF Managing Director, said they were happy to associate with this tournament which is a very good brand. “We call upon volleyball loving Ugandans to come and support the event and also use the same opportunity to check their NSSF statements,” said Byarugaba.
The organizers said the tournament will have games played at the Makerere University Business School ground, Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Nkumba University ground. “We also hope to have demonstration games for primary schools and sitting volleyball for the disabled,” added Nanyondo.
The defending champions KCCA and KAVC for the women and men respectively have all entered the event which will have the winners take home trophies and cash prizes. The other local teams which have entered the event include; COBAP, Sport S, Cubs, Gulu Volleyball Club, Kumi District and Old Kampala Club.
