Some Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement say it is too early to begin a campaign for President Museveni’s 5th term in office.
The legislators say the campaign headed by the Eastern Youth MP, Peter Ogwang, could be a ploy to divert the debate from the national identity card corruption scandal and other issues of national importance.
Peter Ogwang on Monday said he and over 90 MPs had mobilized themselves to begin a nationwide campaign for the re-election of President Museveni in the 2016 elections.
The announcement has however attracted mixed reactions with several Party members questioning the motive of launching the campaign almost four years before the 2016 elections.
Rujumbura MP, Jim Muhwezi in an interview at parliament said the fifth term for president Museveni is not an issue now.
/////////// Cue In “As far as I’m concerned………..

Muhwezi says the NRM and its legislators would rather use their time now to ensure that the party manifesto is implemented.
Wakiso district Woman MP Rosemary Seninde said the fifth term campaign for president Museveni should not be an issue of debate even within the NRM party organs at this moment.
She is of the view that party addresses more pressing social economic problems in the country.

Ajuri County MP, Obua Denis Hamson, said the fifth term campaign is not only diversionary but also a sign what he called emerging power centers with the NRM parliamentary caucus.
///////////// Cue In “The debate is premature…………..

Obua says some of the individuals involved in the fifth term advocacy could be playing politics in anticipation for rewards to fill the vacant posts in cabinet.
Nyabushozi MP, Fred Mwesigye said the fifth term campaign would be necessary once discussed within the party structures.
He says the Peter Ogwang group could have been mobilized to counter efforts by MPs like Theodore Sekikibo and others to reinstate presidential term limits.

Peter Ogwang in interview said he and his group don’t want to wait until 2016 to begin the 5th term campaign.
Ogwang said it was not up to Museveni to first request his supporters to begin canvassing for his 5th term but rather his supporters to ask Museveni to run again.
