The 2012 Cecafa Kagame Club Championship surprise package Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club this afternoon hope to finish their Group A games in style with victory against Djibouti’s AS Ports.
Head coach Alex Isabirye told URN on phone from Dar es Salaam this morning that after the two wins against Simba of Tanzania and Vita Club of DR Congo, they are feeling more comfortable in the tournament. The tax collectors are already in the quarter finals after their two wins.
The Bell Uganda Cup winners shocked Tanzanian champions Simba 2-0 in the opening match before stopping DR Congo side Vita Club 3-1. If the Ugandan representatives top the group they could face either Rwanda’s APR, Atletico of Burundi or Tanzania’s Young Africans.
Isabirye said he has advised his players to respect all teams, including the Djibouti team that has lost two games already. The coach plans to field his strikers Robert Ssentongo and Ali Feni who have already scored once and twice respectively.
URA who have never won the regional trophy this time round seem more than hungry and organized to bring the trophy back to Uganda. Sports Club Villa, Police and KCC are the only Ugandan teams that have won this regional trophy. Tanzanian sides Simba FC and Young Africans have each won the championship four times.
After the URA-AS Ports game that starts at 2pm, Young Africans led by Uganda’s Hamis Kiiza will battle APR of Rwanda. South Sudan’s Wau Salaam were the first team to be sent packing after losing their third game 5-0 yesterday to Atletico of Burundi. The debutants fell 7-0 to APR in their opening game and 7-1 to Young Africans.
