There are many defilement cases going unreported in Catholic Church supported schools in Luwero, Rt. Rev Paul Ssemogerere has said. The Catholic Bishop for Kasana-Luwero made the statement after learning of the latest defilement allegation against a St. Augustine Primary School teacher in Zirobwe Sub County in Luweero district. The teacher allegedly defiled a P.6 pupil.
Bishop Ssemogerere said that this was the fourth case that had been brought to his notice.
Speaking to URN, Bishop Ssemogerere urged the Ministry of Education to work with the Police to establish just how prevalent defilement is in schools in the area. Kasana-Luweero diocese, which Ssemogerere heads, comprises Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.
He also recommended more thorough checks on the backgrounds of teachers admitted to teach in Catholic Church supported schools as the teachers are supposed to be morally upright.
