Shock and grief today morning engulfed the residents of Kigongi ward in Kabale Municipality when they found one of the residents dead in her newly rented room.
Lydia Mbabazi is said have spent only two days in the house where is said to have committed suicide.
Mbabazi, who was a resident of Omurusabena cell, in Nyabikooni ward, central division Kabale municipality, was on Friday last week forced to quit her village when a group of residents attacked her home accusing her of practicing witchcraft.
After being forced out of Omurusabena cell, Mbabazi is said to have been lived with a friend up to Monday 23rd July when she rented another room in Kigongi ward, central division where she was today at around 11:00am found dead.
According to a daughter of the deceased, Anita Mbabazi 13, their mum went to bed as usual and in the morning they asked her to given the vaseline as they prepared to go to school but their mum did not respond. At first they thought that she had over slept.
Anita says that they waited for her to wake up and up to around 11:00am decided to call the neighbors who found that she was dead.
She further revealed that they were told by the neighbors that her mum had poisoned herself.
Residents gathered outside Mbabazi’s room and chased away whoever they did not know very well, saying that her enemies stressed her to the point of committing suicide .
Albert Taremwa, a close friend to the deceased, says that they suspect that Mbabazi had committed suicide because she complained that her name had been tarnished by her enemies who accused her of slaughtering cats for witchcraft purposes.
He says that late last week, Mbabazi revealed that she had only ever killed one cat in her life and it was not to practice witchcraft.
Kabale district police commander Bosco Arop says that the police are aware of the alleged suicide and investigations into the matter are underway.
